Full Kit From Lesson One

Every lesson is on a real kit — building the muscle memory and coordination that practice pads alone simply cannot give you.

All Ages & Levels

From a 5-year-old's very first lesson to an adult picking up sticks for the first time — every student gets a plan built around them.

🎬

Practice Tools That Help

Including our own online drum sequencer — build and hear a beat before you sit at the kit so home practice actually counts.

How It Works

From first hit to full kit grooves.

Drum lessons are structured to build real physical skill and musical awareness — not just patterns to memorise.

1
First Lesson
A relaxed first session on the kit to find out what you want from drumming. No pressure, no commitment.
2
Technique & Coordination
Sticking, limb independence, timing and dynamics — built up in a way that transfers directly to playing with others.
3
Grooves, Fills & Reading
From basic rock grooves to complex fills and reading a drum chart — lessons match your goals and pace.
4
AMEB & ANZCA (Optional)
Graded exam pathways available, or keep lessons entirely informal — whichever suits you best.

Getting Started

Choosing your first kit.

You don't need a drum kit at home to start lessons — the studio kit is used for every session, so your first lesson can go ahead with nothing more than a pair of sticks (and I have spares if you don't). If you decide to keep going and want to practise at home, a compact electronic kit with headphones is usually the most practical option in Hurstville's typically close-quarters housing, though an acoustic kit with sound-dampening pads works well too. I'm happy to talk through what actually suits your situation before you spend anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in your first lesson?

We talk about your goals and the music you love, then get you behind the kit straight away. It's relaxed and low-pressure, so we both know it's a good fit before you commit to ongoing lessons.

What age can kids start drum lessons?

Most students start comfortably from around age 6–7, once they can coordinate hands and feet independently and reach the pedals. There's no upper age limit — plenty of adults start from scratch too.

Do I need my own drum kit before the first lesson?

No — lessons use the studio kit, so you don't need anything at home to get started. If you want to practise between lessons, I'll help you figure out what setup actually makes sense for your space and budget.

Do you teach exam preparation (AMEB, ANZCA, HSC Music)?

Yes. For students who want formal recognition or are preparing for HSC Music performance, I teach to AMEB and ANZCA graded curricula — or we can keep it entirely informal if that suits you better.

How long are lessons and how often do we meet?

Lessons run weekly and range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the student's age and goals — we'll settle on the right length together after your first lesson.

Where are lessons held?

All lessons are in person at the studio at 96 Queens Rd, Hurstville — an easy trip from Penshurst, Kogarah, Mortdale, Carlton and Beverly Hills.
