👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

All Ages — 5 to Adult

From a 5-year-old's first lesson to an adult picking it up for the first time — every plan starts exactly where you are.

🎵

Song-First Approach

Technique is taught underneath music you actually want to play, not as a disconnected drill before you are "allowed" to play songs.

How It Works

Three steps from first chord to real songs.

Whether you are 5 or 55, a complete beginner or returning after years away — here is how lessons work.

1
First Lesson
A relaxed first session to find out what you want and where you're starting from. No pressure, no commitment.
2
A Plan Built Around You
Weekly one-on-one lessons in Hurstville, with technique, theory and songs woven together rather than separate boxes to tick.
3
AMEB & ANZCA Pathways (Optional)
For students who want formal recognition, I follow graded curricula from AMEB and ANZCA — or keep it entirely informal if that suits you better.
4
Real Progress
Whether that is your favourite song, an HSC performance, or just unwinding after work — that is the goal from day one.

Getting Started

Choosing your first guitar.

You don't need to buy anything before your first lesson — bring whatever guitar you already have, or come empty-handed and we'll talk through options. As a rough guide: younger beginners (under 10) usually do best on a 3/4-size acoustic or a smaller electric, since a full-size guitar can be awkward to hold. Teens and adults can generally start on a standard acoustic or electric, whichever style of music motivates you to actually pick it up and practise. If you're planning to buy, I'm happy to point you toward reliable beginner-friendly brands and what to look for — there's no need to spend a lot to start well, and I'll never push you toward buying something you don't need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in your first lesson?

We chat about your goals, your musical taste, and any experience you already have, then get straight into playing. It's relaxed and low-pressure — the aim is for both of us to know it's a good fit before you commit to ongoing lessons.

What age can kids start guitar lessons?

Most students start comfortably from around age 5–6, once their hands are big enough to manage a smaller-sized instrument. There's no upper age limit — I teach adults well into retirement too.

Do I need my own guitar before the first lesson?

No — your first lesson can go ahead without one. If you decide to continue, I'll help you choose an instrument that suits your budget, size and the style of music you want to play.

Do you teach exam preparation (AMEB, ANZCA, HSC Music)?

Yes. For students who want formal recognition or are preparing for HSC Music performance, I teach to AMEB and ANZCA graded curricula. It's entirely optional — many students prefer to stay informal.

How long are lessons and how often do we meet?

Lessons run weekly and range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the student's age and goals — we'll settle on the right length together after your first lesson.

Where are lessons held?

All lessons are in person at the studio at 96 Queens Rd, Hurstville — an easy trip from Penshurst, Kogarah, Mortdale, Carlton and Beverly Hills.
